Homemade Dog Treats

Toby loves peanut butter.  I know most dogs do, but he really thinks it’s the best.  And since the milkbone treats give him the WORST breath, I thought I would try my hand at homemade treats!

You’ll need:

1/4 cup all-natural unsalted peanut butter
1 tablespoon canola oil
1 cup water
2 1/4 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup oatmeal
  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. Combine peanut butter, oil, and water in a large bowl or in the bowl of your stand mixer.  Mix in the flour and oatmeal until just combined.
  3. Roll dough out to 1/4 inch thickness and cut out cookies with a cookie cutter.
  4. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet for 30 to 35 minutes or until the edges begin to brown.  Let cool.

These turned out great! They were pretty chewy, not crunchy & crumbly like typical dog treats.  Toby loved them! They only kept for about a week, but by then there weren’t many left.  We did send a few home with our friends for their pup Drake.  I will keep this recipe handy for sure!
